I believe you have to live technology and understand it from the inside to lead it well: infrastructure, security, delivery, the details that break at 2am. That's what earns the room when I'm presenting risk to a board or reviewing an incident response runbook line by line.
The real job is aligning business, technology, security and process so they move together, not managing each in isolation.
